Math Institute Day 2 and Day 3: Blown away!

I've had another amazing two days at my Math Institute! There are so many awesome ideas that I can't even begin to get them all down onto paper. I did want to make sure to share my pictures with you though! I hope you can take some of these great ideas with you to use next year!

This was an adorable song (sing it to the tune of 5 speckled frogs). We did one activity on day 2 using the number 5 with a 5 frame on the floor for the kids to act it out and then on day 3 with the number 10 and a 10 frame.

Ten frame on the floor using velcro. The first day it was a 5 frame, the second day a 10 frame. The kids actually jumped in and out of them to create the number sentences from the mice song.

Have you tried out any 'around the room' centers? This one is showing the ways to make 10. Each plate had different Swiss cheese amounts. There was even a challenge plate with 3 pieces of cheese!

How cute are these mice pictures? This was done on Day 2 with the number 10 after we read the book Mouse Counts.

Adorable to see how they did this! The first picture has a challenge question on the bottom. The second picture is more for the on grade level/reinforcement level.

This one was done to Three Blind Mice. So cute!

Recording idea to go along with the song. The kids did so great!

New book alert! I loved this book!

Our lead teacher had these posted to show the kids after we read the book:

They then got to make their own favorite number using the dominoes. After which they glued their black dominoes down and colored in the pips. (This can be your fact for the day! A dot on a domino is called a pip!)

We also did an estimation jar with the kiddos today. I loved, loved, loved how she used the number line and was able to post up their estimations. We talked about how we could create a window with paper or tag board that would show the number plus 5 to the left and 5 to the right. Any that fell in this range is considered a good estimate!

***Please remember that these great ideas are not mine but from a workshop! Most of the activities and lessons are from Georgia DOE resources and K-5 Teaching Resources. Some of the lyrics of the songs are from a local teacher. Not sure if she wants her name posted or not :)
