Math Institute Day 4: What a great wrap up!

What a wonderful wrap up day we had today at Math Institute! It was really amazing to see the growth of number sense in the littles in only 4 days! Today we did some great geometry with them!

We started our day with math journals:
These were such great thinkers! We had to prompt some to SHOW us how they knew the answer. Lots of teachers telling the kids "Prove it!" " How did you know?" "What did you notice?"

We even differentiated for the levels- Struggling: How many fingers do you have?; On level: How many fingers at your table?; Enrichment: How many fingers and toes at your table?

The kids listened to Mouse Shape and got to create their own mice. Then we graphed them and discussed. Can you tell how we sorted and graphed?

One of my favorite centers that we did today was building a 2-D and a 3-D shape with marshmallows and coffee straws (1/2 a straw). The kids had a ball!

What a whirl wind week! I am so looking forward to teaching math again in the fall! I was lucky enough that this year's Math Institute was hosted at my school... so I got to go to my classroom and start moving my furniture around to get ready for the new year.

Crazy? Maybe. But I am supposed to be using my room in about a month for Kinder Camp so not too crazy :)
