Technology to Increase Engagement in Literacy Centers

As I look forward to this coming here, I keep going over a lot of the things I've pinned or written about wanting to do. I came across this post that I wrote over a year ago and wanted to share it again. It's still just as easy as before and has a huge impact on students and their learning:

I have been working really hard at updating a LOT of products in my store (i.e.- making way cuter!!). I've also learned some things since last night that is making me change some things as well. I'd love it if y'all would hop on over and take a peek. There are LOTS of freebies that are calling your name.... ;)

I also wanted to share with you this awesome gadget that one of my school's Technology people let me borrow this summer:

It's a head set with a microphone that you can use to record yourself. How cool is that?!?! It plugs right into the head set jack.

The only thing is that you have to have a program to run it. I have this cool one (free!!!!) that works awesome!

I'm planning on creating a whole punch of my own MP3s this summer. I created several this last year and my kiddos were so excited to here MY voice when they turned the CD player on! It was adorable the looks of excitement!! I chose several of our favorite Back to School books to bring home to make them.

Grab your own headset here! It's so awesome!

What's on your summer to-do list?

Plan with Me Sunday

Have you always wondered how other people 'keep it together'? I know I definitely have!
This is a great linkup where you can show your method or just come visit to see how others
do it. This link up is hosted by Meghan at Keeping up with Mrs. Harris and Robyn from Creative in Kindergarten. The goal of this link party is to share with others how we organize, decorate, and use our different planners to keep up with all of our responsibities from being mom, wife to teachers, bloggers, and sellers.

I have always had planner envy so this is the perfect kind of link up to me! I am already in love with several of the ideas that I have seen. Over the years I have tried several different types of planners. When I began college, my mom tried to get me hooked on a filofax type planner. But it was way to big for me-- it had handles and everything! It works for many, but not me.

Over the years I have gone from type to type but I have FINALLY found one that I love:

This is from Plum Papers on Etsy. You can customize it to your needs and wants. It's absolutely wonderful!

The cover can be customized. Your monogram, initial, name, with or without the years... options are endless!

The categories on your weeks can be customized. (Sorry for the sideways picture!) If you zoom it in, you can see each of my family members has a row, meals has a row, and I left one blank just in case I have other stuff to add in.

Overall it's perfect! (I promise I'm not getting anything out of singing their praises, I simply love this planner!)

Here's some of the ways that I've made this work for me:

I love the At-A-Glance calendar. It's colorful and pretty!

While having the weekly calendar broken down into categories for everyone is definitely nice, I definitely utilize the monthly view way, way more. As you can see, I add my kids' things in one color and my school stuff in another. I try to use colors that are more eye catching to me. But, to be fair and honest, we all know that sometimes it's whatever is closest at hand.

This is how I break down the weeks. After seeing Meghan's post, I think I could add more to 'pretty' it up some. I'll definitely be working on that for the new school year!

My favorite add on is my Tieks bow to the front:

It matches perfectly!

Now my biggest tip though is this: My planner is wonderful for ME.. not so much for my husband. So the things that he needs or wants to know about simply are added to our Google calendar that we share. It's definitely a system that works for us!

Thanks so much for reading! I hope that you will join us with this new link party! Here are some guidelines if you do!

She be shopping, shopping...

A new room, a new grade level, a new color scheme! Right?

Well, I'm not going totally new. I saw this amazing room from School Girl Style:

I am in L-O-V-E with this color scheme so I have begun filling my room with little pieces of these colors to make it flow all the way across the classroom. A lot of my things were already a blue/teal and green. So keeping with those and adding in yellow, white, and gray will be perfect!

Here's what I grabbed so far:

These dice packs were on sale at Kroger for $1.49!

So these aren't actually for my class, they are for my new team mates (shh!)

And to wrap them up very, very pretty...

Michael's had a fabulous sale going on so this ribbon was super cheap and pretty!

Cardstock is a must! At $2 a pack it's perfect to stack up on, plus I have already gone through about 4 packs!

Back to school pencils? 50%? Done and done.

A modeled set of the butterfly life cycle.. for sure! Michael's actually has these for several different life cycles. I'll be grabbing tadpole-frog next!

Reading buddies will be housed in this cheery container. I also plan on trying my hand at vinyl letters on my circuit this summer.

How adorable is this chalkboard? I am planning on putting messages on it in the morning and at open house. Nice and sunny too :)

Slowly working on creating a pom and lantern collection. Plus a few more packs of card stock :) Googly eyes and colorful sticks for reading pointers.

Have I mentioned how excited I am about going back to Kindergarten?!!?!?

Technology Thursday: Great New Apps and Ideas

I am so excited to link up with Technology Thursday from Teaching Trio! Just last week I found this great new app called Pick Me!

See it down there in the bottom row? It's the perfect app (cheap too) for tracking student responses. You sign up for an account, import your list:

Then as you teach it does several things:
-randomly picks a name from your student list until all students have been called on
-gives you an opportunity to mark if students were correct or incorrect
-generates a report based for you to access later

How cool is that? All on your phone! Way easier than having a cup of sticks and a clipboard. I have never been able to have the ability to juggle both of those and focus on teaching. Plus, if you are in the hallway and have arrived somewhere early, you have the ability to question, record, and collect data all at the same time!
